Faulty pipe forces meet cancellation at Goulburn Race Course

Last Monday, in a turn of horrendous luck for the Goulburn Race Club, a pipe underneath the track malfunctioned and forced the cancellation of the rest of the day’s races.

In a statement released last Monday afternoon, club chief executive Robyn Fife said that cancellation was the only option once the extent of the water leaking from a burst

pipe was discovered.Pipe Fittings Suppliers

“With a burst water main flooding part of the track after Race One, Racing NSW stewards and the race club had no other alternative but to call off the remainder of the

meeting,” Fife said.

“The safety of our racing surface is paramount to us as a race club and most importantly to the industry participants who come here to race.”

Local trainer Danny Williams, who was set to have several horses race on Monday, understood why the meet was cancelled, but said it came at a cost to trainers and owners

involved.

“Things like [the cancellation] happen occasionally,” Williams said. “It’s just bad luck.

“Someone comes in from the city … and they would’ve had to have hired staff on the day, and fuel for travelling, it’s quite disruptive.”

The cost was not quite so large to Williams, who trains his horses locally and subsequently did not incur travel costs for last week’s event.

The executive officer of Racing NSW Country, Brian Charman, confirmed that the trainers whose events were cancelled would receive compensation in the form of “a package

that Racing NSW has established, and the trainers are aware of what that is.”

Aside from compensation for the trainers, Racing NSW confirmed with the Post that the horses that were accepted for [Monday’s] meeting but did not get to race would be able

to “re-nominate for an upcoming meeting until 4pm on the day prior to final acceptances.” Forged Flange Manufacturers

Goulburn Race Club did not confirm how long it would take to mend the pipe.

Fife said Goulburn Race Club would “work closely with Racing NSW to have the issue addressed immediately.”

The next meet at the Goulburn Race Course the Premierships Race Day, which is scheduled to take place on Friday August 31.
